Subject: Review of the Livestock Act 2008 and Livestock Regulations 2009 (‘Livestock Biosecurity Legislative Framework’)

Dear Louise,

The Northern Territory is undertaking a comprehensive review of the Livestock Act 2008 and Livestock Regulations 2009 (‘livestock biosecurity legislative framework’) to ensure it remains flexible and can quickly respond to present and future biosecurity challenges.

The Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Branch is leading the regulatory review on behalf of the Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism. A discussion paper, online survey and associated information is available at https://haveyoursay.nt.gov.au/. For convenience, I have attached the discussion paper and associated buffalo fact sheet for members.

The consultation period for the review will be open until 6.00 pm, Monday, 4 October 2021. However given the shortened consultation period, formal written submissions and responses to the discussion paper will be accepted beyond this date with notice. Alternatively, please feel free to complete the on-line survey, or send a short letter or email. The survey and contact details are listed on the Have Your Say website.

Face-to-face engagement and consultations presentations can be provided to your organisation and members on-site or via MS Team on request. To arrange a presentation or if you are seeking further information please do not hesitate to contact departmental staff on (08) 8999 2077, or via email: livestock.ditt.

Public consultation forums are scheduled to be held on-line during the evenings of 15 September and 22 September 2021. Forum times and dial in details will be published on the Have Your Say website in the very near future.

Regards,

Sue
